The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) M.A., in compliance with Section 18(10) of the Police Act 2020, On October 13, 2020, Adamu, NPM, mni instructed all staff of the disbanded
SARS to appear for debriefing, psychological and medical evaluation at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Before being reassigned into mainstream policing roles, officers are required to undergo
this process as a sequel to further training and reformation.
Flashywap states that the newly established Police Counseling and Support Unit (PCSU), will perform the medical evaluation.
A unit specialized in the psychological control, reformation and preparation of the Force
officers mobilized for tactical operations and other duties.
The unit, which is located within the Medical Department of the Force and directed by the Medical Officer of the Force,
Its membership is drawn from relevant skills and expertise among therapists,
psychologists, doctors, clerics and imams, public relations professionals, civil society, and other human rights organisations.
In the meantime, a new Special Arms and Tactics (SWAT) team has been formed by the
IGP that will fill the gaps resulting from the dissolution of the disbanded SARS.
In order to assess their competence and eligibility for the new task, prospective members
of the SWAT team may also undertake a psychological and medical test.
They are to begin training next week at various police tactical training institutions nationwide.
“While personnel from the Police Commands in the South-East and the South-South will be
trained at the Counter-Terrorism College, Nonwa-Tai, Rivers State, those from the Police
Commands from the North and the South-West will be trained at the Police Mobile Force
Training College, Ende, Nasarawa State and the Police Mobile Force Training College,
Ila-Orangun, Osun State, respectively,” Adamu stated.
The IGP instructs members of the public while validating its irreversible contribution to the
effective and effective implementation of police reforms.
