The Governor of the State of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal, has requested that the appointment of Lauretta Onochie as Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission-INEC be immediately withdrawn.
In the nomination that he submitted to the Senate during the week for confirmation,
President Muhammadu Buhari named Onochie and a few others.
With many Nigerians kicking against the nomination, the development has created many uncertainties.
Tambuwal stated “the withdrawal is in the best interest of the country’s electoral system.”
He indicated that Buhari’s choice of “Onochie is not right for the country’s democracy as the nominee is a well-known partisan individual.”
Furthermore, the Sokoto Governor requested that the upper legislative chamber should “reject her nomination if President Buhari fails to withdraw her nomination.”
