In the “Concept Cars” category for its “Prophecy” concept EV, which was officially launched this year, Hyundai Motor Company has received an award for 2020 Car Design.
The yearly Car Design Medals, which have been held in Turin, Italy since 1984, are one of the most coveted award ceremonies in the industry.
In the long term of transportation design, the award ceremony seeks to celebrate and mark turning points.
The ceremony is organized by Auto & Design Brochure, but this year the medals were held digitally for the first period due to the causing havoc pandemic.
The medals are assigned by an international jury consisting of representatives and some of the world’s most prominent automobiles catalogs in the world.
The properly named concept of Hyundai EV is a “prophecy” significant for the way it encompasses
the sensuous identity of Hyundai’s sporting design with hopeful surrealism, which seeks to forge a new form of emotional connection between humans and automobiles.
The jury praised “Prophecy” in awarding the prize to Hyundai for its aerodynamic, natural shape influenced by standardized sedans of the 1920s and 1930s,
coupled with a series of technical innovations: “Nautical” inspiration came in the form of such details as thermally-extracting wheels in the style of engines.
“Prophecy” has no grille between its pixel headlamps, instead of imitating a conventionally powered car, and the pixel design repeats with tail lamps that give a sports car-like flourish to the rear.
Working on this project has been a real pleasure, and we are pleased to win this prestigious Car Design Award for ‘Prophecy’.
We look for inspiration everywhere, whether it’s the fashion or mobility industry, when we develop our concept cars,’ said SangYup Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Global Design Center.
“We tried to create a very positive optimism for the future with ‘Prophecy’ based on very simplistic
single curve forms that are memorable of aerodynamic and streamlined car eras but projected into the future,” Leee stated.
“Prophecy ” applies Sensuous ride comfort in ways never before seen in Hyundai’s fleet. This design identity is most evident in the voluptuous side section, which is like that of a perfectly-weathered stone.
It is cut with a clean and simple One Curve streamline, extending with minimalist restriction from the front to the rear. This underlines its design’s timelessness.
Even when it is standing still, the dynamic and elegant boat-tail line created by the rear quarter panels appears to propel the form forward.
